An editorial note on how we think about book work
Most book-service providers list a menu: editing, proofreading, cover design, formatting. We think that framing misses the point. A book is not a checklist — it is a living argument between the author's intention and the reader's experience. Our role is to close the gap between those two things.
That means we start every engagement with a manuscript assessment, not a price quote. We read a sample, identify the structural and stylistic pressure points, and propose a scope of work that addresses what actually matters. Sometimes that is a full developmental edit. Sometimes it is a design-only engagement because the prose is already sharp. We never prescribe services you do not need.
This philosophy has earned us long-term relationships with authors who return book after book, and with independent publishers who trust us to maintain their editorial standards across catalogues of twenty or thirty titles a year.
